چکیده

The influence of different wind directions on the outbreak of convection in Northern England, was investigated with a high-resolution numerical model. The Clark model, a 3D finite-difference, non-hydrostatic model was used in this study. It was initialised with the topography of Northern England, a representation of surface characteristics, and used a routinely available meteorological sounding, typical of the unstable conditions. Results showed that convective cells were initially triggered in the lee of the elevated terrain, and that only after the convection had developed, were cells upwind of the elevated terrain produced. The windward slopes themselves seemed sheltered from convection. Under most wind directions, the central Pennines (the Forest of Trawden and the Forest of Rossendale) seemed particularly affected by convective rainfall.

The role of topography on the simulation of Sistan wind structure in the east of Iranian Plateau

In this study, the interaction between atmosphere and earth surface and its effect on the simulation of Sistan wind structure in the East of Iranian plateau is investigated. For this purpose, four experiments have been carried out with RegCM4, with horizontal resolution of 20 km. In non-topography experiments, the model was implemented in three different conditions. The results indicated that t...

Dry climate, poor vegetation and relatively smooth surface and neighborhood with plain Lute are the most important factors that brought about wind erosion processes prevail in the Kerman region. Obviously, wind erosion rate and volume of material transfer depends on characteristics of speed and direction also frequency of wind as well as surface and sediment characteristics. The purpose of this...

Analysis of wind erosion and transport potential of quick sands located in the territory of Lut desert

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Arid and semi-arid regions of the world cover more than 30% of the earthchr('39')s surface. Wind, as one of the erosive agents of the earthchr('39')s surface, causes the transport of sand and deformation in arid areas. Wind erosion is directly related to wind speed. The higher the wind speed is above the threshold value, the more increase in wind speed. This ...

Vegetation characteristics of four ecological zones of Iran

Environmental (topography, climate) features have an important influence on plant diversity and richness of Iran. Topography is from –28m which is close to Caspian Sea to 5678m which is located on the Alborz Mountain. Two mountains (Alborz and Zagrosss) prevent moist air moving to the centre of Iran. On the basis of environmental factors, four ecological zones with specific plant richness from ...

بررسی پارامترسازی عمق لایه پایدار شبانه و تاثیر آن در آلودگی هوای یک منطقه شهری با توپوگرافی پیچیده (تهران)

Mixing height of the atmospheric boundary depends on the vertical variation of temperature in the atmosphere which includes temperature inversion (including surface and elevated inversions) that has a significant effect on air quality. The mixing height like some other meteorological variables has diurnal variations. The reason for that is its dependence on some other basic meteorological param...
